While the G7 celebrate their power and wealth in Houston, poverty continues unabated in much of the world. In Haiti, the infant mortality rate is 10 times that in the U.S.A., while per capita income is 55 times less. Even within the legal borders of the U.S.A. there is a 45 percent poverty rate on Native American reservations and 39 percent poverty rate in Puerto Rico. In the first day of this summit, witnesses from seven of the world's poorest nations have addressed the status of poverty, debt, international commerce and the environment among their people. Part II of this summit includes a report from an organization based in France, The North-South Monitoring Group, on the accomplishments of the G7 countries on crucial issues ranging from the environment to disarmament. A response will be given by Davidson Budhoo.
