The OTHER Economic Summit - TOES '90, Houston, July 6-8, 1990
The decades of the 60s, the 70s, and the 80s provided important learning opportunities for those involved in organizing grass roots social change. As we close out the 1980s, the dramatic changes occurring in Eastern Europe have clearly affected the climate for grass roots movements throughout the First, Second and Third Worlds.
At the same time, the political and economic crisis of the poor and powerless in many parts of the world have deepened. Thus, in the United States, the Reagan years have lead to grotesque and obscene concentration of wealth and widening inequality between the rich and the poor.
This session will take stock of the lessons of the past, seek to articulate strategies for the future, and build solidarity links among those playing key roles in grass roots organizing in the South and the North.
