Perspectives on International Health Care Economics
This workshop on international health care economics will focus on three significant forces with which local governments and health care workers must reckon. First, the impact of military conflict on the uncompromised rendering of health care. Second, specific problems which face village health workers. Finally, a case study on the impact of international corporate interests on the health of people in developing nations.

- Dr. Janet Gottschalk, Dr.P.H., R.N., F.A.A.N., Center for International Health at the UTMB School of Nursing. "Medical Neutrality and the Violation of Human Rights" will examine the impact of ideological conflicts in Central America, and elsewhere, on health delivery systems, e.g. diversion of national resources from health care to military expenditures, U.S. aid-supported destruction of health resources, and medical neutrality.
- David Werner, Director of the Hesperian Society and author of Where There Is No Doctor: A Village Health Care Handbook. "Health Care Delivery Systems in Underdeveloped Areas" will explore the importance and dynamics of creating self-sustaining health care in rural and village settings.
- Prof. Benarji Debabar, Chairperson, Center for Social Medicine and Community Health, Nehru University, New Delhi.
- David Smith, PhD, Associate Professor of Demography, University of Texas School of Public Health; Board Member, Planned Parenthood, Southeast Texas. "Perspectives on International Family Planning" will examine population problems and family planning efforts in the developing world and a present a normative analysis.
