Creating the Peace Economy

The world cries out for a peace economy: not just an end to the insane and burdensome arms race, but rather a viable alternative to the war system. For the first time in a generation, it is possible to plan seriously for a new and restructured world peace economy that meets critical human needs, empowers people to shape their own futures, and rescues the planet from the threats to global survival posed by human-induced environmental destruction. We will present a vision of what a global peace economy might look like.

Economic Conversion as Global "Perestroika" will take up the need for a redefinition of national security and the experience thus far in converting military resources to peaceful uses. In this context, implications for the overall direction of the U.S. economy in the 1990's will be explored.
