Peoples' Summit/TOES '97 - Denver Program

Summit for Our Children's Future

Children: They are our greatest hope for the future, but also, they are often the first to suffer when things go wrong.

"Fears After Cluster of Birth Defects, Pain and Mystery Linger in Brownsville," The Washington Post, 9/17/1995.

"Warning: Children at Work," The Washington Post, 12/12/1996. "[Imported] Strawberries Cause US Outbreak of Hepatitis A: Frozen Fruit Was Sent to School Lunch Programs" The Washington Post, 4/3/1997.

Join us in a citizen challenge to encourage the G-8 leaders meeting in Denver this June, to think again about what kind of world they are creating for our children. Will it be a world driven by unaccountable economic forces - a world of stagnant wages, fractured communities, poisoned air, water, and food? Do we really want our children to inherit a despoiled planet? Or will our leaders take responsibility to restore the democratic values we need to build a secure and healthy future for our kids?

Where: Central Presbyterian Church, 1660 Sherman St., Denver, CO 80203 When: Wednesday, June 18, 1997 - 6:00 - 9:30 PM

Refreshments will be served from 6:00 - 6:30 for a small, voluntary donation. Bring a pen and paper to express yourself. Children welcome.

At "The Summit for our Children's Future," parents, activists, doctors, and young people will use videos, pictures, and stories to explain how global economic trends - the rise of mega-corporations, casino financial markets, and free-for-all trade policies - threaten to steal our kid's future.
